The words used by the client area and this documentation, in the sense we give them. LizPack terms link to the page that covers them in detail.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Lizmap administration | The administration site of your portal: projects, visitor accounts, access rights. Its link and credentials are on the instance page, under Administrator access. See the Lizmap administration. |
| Dedicated database | A PostgreSQL/PostGIS database subscribed separately, from Databases. It has its own storage and lives independently of your instances. See dedicated databases. |
| Instance database | The PostgreSQL/PostGIS database included in each instance. It stops, restarts and disappears with the instance. Its connection settings are shown from the Pro plan up. See the database. |
| Redis cache | The instance service that keeps tiles and sessions in memory to speed up display. It has no settings on your side. |
| SSL certificate | What lets the browser open your portal over HTTPS, an encrypted connection. We issue it with Let's Encrypt and renew it ourselves. See certificates. |
| Licence key | A code of the form XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX that activates a subscription without paying online. See licence keys. |
| Update key | A code that pays for an instance update on plans where it is not included. See updating an instance. |
| Files | The file manager of an instance, opened by the Files tab on its page: your QGIS projects and their data. See the file manager. |
| Two-factor authentication | A 6-digit code sent by email, requested at each sign-in on top of the password. See two-factor authentication. |
| Team | The collaborators you invite onto your account, each with their own permissions. Available from the Pro plan. See the team. |
| FedaPay | The provider that collects Mobile Money payments. |
| .cfg file | The Lizmap configuration file, created by the Lizmap extension for QGIS next to the .qgs project. Without it, the project does not appear on the portal. |
| GeoJSON | A text format for geographic data, light and common on the web. |
| GeoPackage | A file format (.gpkg) that holds vector and raster layers in a single file. The simplest to publish with a project. |
| GeoServer | A free map server that publishes layers as WMS and WFS. LizPack opens a space on it for you from the GeoServer page. See GeoServer. |
| Instance | Your hosted map portal: a Lizmap site with its QGIS Server, its PostgreSQL/PostGIS database, its cache and its file space. See instances. |
| Activity log | The list of actions carried out from your account, with their date and the IP address they came from. See the activity log. |
| Let's Encrypt | The free, open certificate authority that issues the certificates of your portals. |
| Lizmap Web Client | The free web application, developed by 3Liz, that shows your QGIS projects as interactive maps. It is the software of your portal. |
| LizPack Publisher | Our extension for QGIS Desktop: it sends your projects and their data to your instances. See the plugin. |
| Marketplace | The client area catalogue: themes, extensions, add-ons, licence keys and training. Some sections are marked Soon. |
| Mobile Money | Payment by mobile phone. It only offers the yearly subscription, without automatic renewal. See payment methods. |
| Module | A feature added to your Lizmap portal from the Modules section of the instance page. |
| OGC | Open Geospatial Consortium: the body that defines the standards for exchanging geographic data, including WMS, WFS, WMTS and WCS. |
| Plan | Your subscription formula: Free, Basic, Pro or Enterprise. It sets your quotas and the features available. See the plans. |

| PostgreSQL | The free database system behind your instances and your dedicated databases. |
| QGIS Desktop | The free GIS software in which you prepare your projects before publishing them. |
| QGIS Server | The engine of your instance that reads your QGIS projects and draws the maps. It also serves the WMS, WFS, WMTS and WCS feeds. |
| QML | A QGIS style file (.qml): the symbology and labels of a layer. |
| Quota | The limits of your plan: file space, database size, number of instances. Beyond them, the instance switches to Quota exceeded. See the quotas. |
| Role | A ready-made set of permissions for a team member: Administrator, Publisher, Viewer, or Custom. See the roles. |
| Shapefile | The older vector layer format, in several files (.shp, .shx, .dbf, .prj) to upload together. |

| WCS | Web Coverage Service: the OGC standard that serves raster data, such as satellite images or terrain models. |
| WFS | Web Feature Service: the OGC standard that serves the vector features themselves, geometries and attributes. |
| WMS | Web Map Service: the OGC standard that serves a map as an image. |
| WMTS | Web Map Tile Service: the OGC standard that serves a map as precomputed tiles, faster to display. |
